Up Against! lädt im Rahmen der gleichnamigen Aktionswoche den Aktivisten Ben Morea aus New York nach Zürich ein. Am Dienstagabend macht er Halt in der Autonomen Schule Zürich.
Ben Morea (76) ist ein Künstler, Anarchist und Aktivist aus New York. Als Jugendlicher war er in der New Yorker Jazz-Szene der 1950er aktiv und war in den 60er Jahren in engem Kontakt mit den Poet*innen und Künstler*innen der Beat-Generation und Black-Power-Aktivist*innen.
1966 gründete er das anarchistische Magazin “Black Mask“ mit, das sich zwei Jahre später in die lose anarchistische militante Gruppe “Up Against The Wall, Motherfucker“ entwickelte, die im Kontext der damaligen Unruhen – der Anti-Kriegs-Bewegung, den antirassistischen Kämpfen und der Black-Power Bewegung in den USA – das Bedürfnis hatte, Theorie und Analyse noch mehr auf die Strasse zu bringen, als “Strassenbande mit einer Analyse“, wie sie es
nannten.
Über UP AGAINST!
Vom 9. bis 14. Oktober wird die autonom organisierte Veranstaltungswoche UP AGAINST! in Zürich stattfinden. “UP AGAINST!” ist eine Aufforderung, anhand der Veranstaltungen im Oktober auf vielfältige Art und Weise die Möglichkeiten subversiver Theorie und Praxis neu zu entdecken und sichtbar zu machen. In gemeinsamen Auseinandersetzung und in lebendigem Austausch der verschiedenen Denkformen, Schwerpunkten und Perspektiven, indem alle un-möglichen Formen, aus eigenen Initiativen, Interessen und Zugängen ihren Teil beitragen können. Wir wollen die Trennungen verschiedener sozialer Umfelder einzelner anarchistischer Positionen aufbrechen, und den Fluss subversiver Energien und Auseinandersetzungen in ein gemeinsames, von Diskriminierungen und Unterdrückungen befreites Spannungsfeld lenken.
Der Besuch von Ben Morea ist eine Möglichkeit, Bezugspunkte innerhalb der Geschichte ausfindig zu machen, die Brücken zu alltäglichen und gegenwärtigen Geschehnissen schlagen und neue, wie auch bestehende individuelle Zugänge gegenseitig sichtbar machen.

Up Against! invites activist Ben Morea from New York to Zurich as part of the week of the same name. On Tuesday evening he’ll stop at the Autonomous School Zurich.
Ben Morea (76) is an artist, anarchist and activist from New York. As a teenager, he was active in the New York Jazz scene of the 1950s and was in close contact with the poets and artists of the Beat generation and the Black Power activist in the 1960s.
In 1966 he founded the anarchist magazine “Black Mask”, which two years later developed into the loose anarchist militant group “Up Against The Wall, Motherfucker”. In the context of the ongoing unrest at that time – the anti-war movement, the antiracist struggle and the black-power movement in the USA – they felt the need to bring theory and analysis even more into the streets, a “streetgang with an analysis” as they called themselves.
About UP AGAINST!
From the 9th to 14th October, the autonomously organized event week «UP AGAINST!» will take place in Zurich. «UP AGAINST!» Is an invitation to use the events in October in a variety of ways to rediscover the possibilities of subversive theory and practice! In a shared discussion, and in a lively exchange of the different forms of thought, priorities and perspectives, by all possible forms, from their own initiatives, interests and approaches. We want to break the divisions of different social environments of individual anarchist positions and to direct the flow of subversive energies and conflicts into a common tension field, free of discrimination and oppression. Traversed by the different interests and approaches to revolutionary perspectives, it is an attempt to mutually understand each other, to individually complement, or deliberately set apart.
The visit of Ben Morea is a means of identifying reference points within the history, to connect them with everyday and current events, and making new and existing individual approaches visible to each other.
